Driving the regional economic renaissance

The recent launch of the Government's industrial strategy has once again put the spotlight on the contribution that all the regions of the UK can make to the progress of our economy. Ensuring a more balanced pattern of growth across the country will be particularly important as the key elements of our post-Brexit economic plan take shape. The regional focus over the past few years has been on the Northern Powerhouse and to a lesser extent, the Midlands 'engine for growth'. But the less well-known UK regions and sub-regions are just as important - and we therefore need to understand their relative strengths and weaknesses and where they need investment to improve. Where better to start this exercise than one of our most entrepreneurial corners - Essex. The 'Greater Essex' economy includes not only the area covered by Essex CC but the unitary authorities of Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea BCs as well.
