Authority reduces council tax hike

Senior Central Bedfordshire councillors have reduced the authority's council tax ask from 6% to 4.5% after consulting with residents.The council's executive recommended a 3% increase in the adult social care precept - backed by a majority ofrespondents - but have changed their council tax plans after receiving a 'more mixed' response.Executive member for corporate resources, Cllr Richard Wenham, said: 'We have listened to what the public has told us through the consultation on our savings plans and council tax options. It's clear the majority of people are prepared to pay more for vital care services, but fewer people supported the additional 3% council tax option than were opposing it.'We need to recognise that people are facing real pressures, particularly those on fixed incomes and we must respond to that.'
