Abold vision for a new-look Stockport

Councillor Mark Hunter is ambi-tious. Leader of Stockport Council's ruling Liberal Democrat administration since May 2002, he is ambitious for the borough to achieve more and to be recognised regionally and nationally for its efforts. Having achieved the leadership, he produced, in short order, a 10-point pledge which has underpinned his leadership, the council's policy and the entire tone of the organisation. 'I said to myself, "how can I put a personal stamp on the council?" I wanted to underline the point that there was somebody new at the helm,' says Cllr Hunter. 'It's important for us to be seen to be ambitious. It's not enough being content with where you are, or being complacent. That won't help you improve services to local people or get into the excellent category in the next CPA.'
