摘要

'It's bloody tough. There is a desperate isolation in the job and the long hours affect the rest of your life.' This is what one senior female manager had to say about life at the top in local government. With latest research showing only 16% of women occupying the chief executive's chair, compared to 9% a decade ago, it would appear that little progress has been made. The MJ asked a selection of leading women managers to come to lunch for insight into the nitty-gritty of the real life experiences behind this glaring statistic. We asked: Is it tangible factors, such as lack of childcare, that are holding women back? Or intangible cultural issues? Did they have to be better at their jobs than men to get to the top? Do women have a different leadership style?'
