Young people are deeply rooted in their local neighbourhoods and should be encouraged to help develop community services - analysis by the New Local Government Network (NLGN) has revealed. Produced in response to media concern over a moral decline among young people, in the aftermath of the August 2011 riots, the research paper - which drew on all available long-term data - suggests the emerging generation of young people is more conservative and strait-laced than their predecessors. Evidence from large-scale samples and focus groups indicates young people drink less, take fewer drugs, and hold less tolerant views on punishing crime and welfare handouts.
