Two Cabinet ministers - including local government secretary, Eric Pickles - have promised to cut back 'taxpayer-funded' public sector union officials. Speaking at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, Mr Pickles attacked council 'taxpayer-funded full-time trade union officials' which, he said, cost £250m a year. He added: 'You won't find Labour criticising them as their leader's own Labour council [Doncaster] keeps bankrolling union officials on the rates.'
