Councils are being forced into the 'false economy' of dosing day-centres for elderly and vulnerable residents due to a lack of funding from central government, the UK's largest public sector union has claimed.Unison published findings from a survey of social workers on 17 June suggesting widespread closures and reductions in services at day centres had already taken place, with more cuts on the way.Research conducted by the University of Birmingham on behalf of Unison, reveals that 57% of social care workers have seen day centres close,with a further majority expecting more cuts.
