Councils in the West Midlands have pledged to work together to reduce their reliance on agency social workers. Birmingham City Council said it and other local authorities in the region were 'experiencing difficulties in recruiting and retaining permanent staff due to the Very buoyant' agency social work market. Sandwell MBCs director of children's services Simon White said his council had recently recruited 50 permanent professionally qualified social workers, which would 'completely transform the market by reducing the authority's need for agency staff.
