Glasgow opts for O'Donnell as chief

Annemarie O'Donnell has been appointed George Black's replacement as chief executive of Glasgow City Council. Last week's decision to appoint Ms O'Donnell as Glasgow's first-ever female chief executive follows Mr Black's announcement in August of his decision to retire at the end of this year. He had worked for Glasgow since 1990 and held the top council post for more than a decade, since 2003. Ms O'Donnell, a qualified solicitor, said she was 'delighted and humbled to have been appointed'. She said: 'This is a really exciting time for Glasgow. There is no doubt the next few years will be challenging for everyone in local government.'
