'The future' is an uncertain concept in local government today. For many people working in the sector, however, the austerity of today strengthens their commitment to whatever future it brings. Finding and keeping talented individuals with this dedication is critical for local authorities, which is why they are increasingly subscribing to the national graduate development programme (NGDP) for local government. Local government remains an attractive career option for graduates as well. The level of organisational and financial change in the sector attracted new NGDP recruit Shoaib Khan to apply for the scheme.
