Spending on social care spirals by 5%

Council spending on social care services has spiralled by as much as a quarter since 2012/13, data shared with The MJ has revealed. Despite council funding falling by up to 29% over five years to 2015, rises in social care costs have led to total gross expenditure climbing by almost 5% in England's counties between 2012/13 and 2014/15. Figures from Grant Thornton's CFO Insights tool showed spending on children's social care at county level spiked by 25% to £2.8bn over this period.
