摘要

Developers have hailed plans to fast-track planning applications as good news for cash-strapped councils. The Government unveiled a series of proposals last week designed to speed up the current planning system, including allowing councils to charge extra fees to hasten the process. Ministers are also considering the idea of giving applicants the choice of submitting plans to the local council, a neighbouring authority or an approved provider. The chief executive of the British Property Federation, Melanie Leech, said they had advocated a 'carrot and stick approach' to planning fees for some time.
