Back in 1996, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) made the decision to sell the majority of its married quarters estate to Annington Property Limited, and rent them back on a 200-year lease agreement.Although the property deal generated a £1.66bn cash boost for the department, a failure to predict the rise in property prices and rent increases has left the MOD seriously out of pocket.
