Pilots testing 75% business rates retention will come to an end, with no new pilots planned for 2020/21, The MJ understands. However, it is understood that the 100% business rates retention pilots in devolution deal areas -Cornwall, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, West of England and West Midlands - that were introduced in 2017/18 will continue in 2020/21. A spokesman for London Councils said it was 'disappointed' by the decision to cancel its business rates retention pilot pool and the organisation would continue to make the case for renewing the scheme. Officers from London Councils had been exploring with civil servants the possibility of securing an extension of the pilot in 2020/21.
