Diary would like to thank the Local Government Association (LGA) for drawing ant-tention to the dangers facing insects in the UK. The LGA's summary of news headlines had attempted to report comments from the head of NHS England, Simon Stevens, warning that anti-vaccination campaigners were gaining traction on social media. A missing letter meant that it seemed the LGA was instead highlighting some bad news for ants, with the headline: 'Ant-vaccine "fake news" is risking lives, says health service boss'. It wasn't clear why Mr Stevens would be commenting on creepy crawlies though Diary originally suspected it was something to do with the use of ant-ibiotics. We're assured the fact that more than 40% of insects may be extinct in a few decades, with most insects at risk of being lost within 100 years, has nothing to do with any ant-vaccine. Cyber security is one of the biggest threats of our time, which is why Whitehall is taking it very, very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that the Government's new chief security officer, Dominic Fortescue, wrote a letter to Solace (the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives) president Martin Swales stressing the importance of promoting good cyber security among councils. But there was a slight hiccup around the letter's confidentiality - and that wasn't due to any hackers getting their hands on the missive.
