Appendix Ⅱ Missile Guidance Systems

Worldwide, a variety of guidance systems technologies have been developed, their roots reaching back to World War Ⅱ and the Allied and Axis powers. The following provides information on various missile guidance technologies and techniques developed since the 1940s. When a radar or some other seeker assembly on the missile or the fire control system acquires the target, the second stage is the guidance equation. When a target is acquired that is within the performance capabilities of the missile, the target is held, or "locked on," to the seeker.
