New Laws for Newly Licensed Teen Drivers

During the past legislative session, the Minnesota Legislature strengthened the state's graduated driver's licensing law (GDL) for newly licensed teen drivers. Now, critical laws will help teens hone their driving skills during the first year of licensure by minimizing exposure to two high-risk situations: carrying multiple teen passengers and driving late at night.rnThese new limitations make sense. Traffic deaths are the leading killer of Minnesota teens, and each year teen drivers are overrepre-sented in fatal traffic crashes - due to driver inexperience, distractions, nighttime driving, speeding and seat belt non-use.
