The Thong Run

This event, at Kenilworth Rugby Club, Warwickshire is pretty chilled out. You arrive, pitch your tent, hit the bar and relax. There was of course plenty to do - there were Minis to look at for a start, and a good mix of ages and types, most of them decorated with thongs. There were obviously several Clubman Estates ranging from standard early Seventies models through to tastefully-modified later versions and a mad 4×4 Clubman Estate/Suzuki hybrid. Being the biggest, naturally, this was wearing the largest thong. There was also Martin Cull's R1-engined Cabrio and Tracey Lippett's Cooper 35 LE Japanese import. After admiring the Minis there were competitions to enter, thongs to fling, raffle tickets to buy, auction prizes to wish for and food to cook - the communal barbecue bringing everyone together before the raffle and auction took place. Thanks must go to the many traders and businesses that donated prizes, including Mini Spares, Minifilms, CBeebies (for donating a personalised recording for the winning bidder) and of course Guy Allen, the artist who designs the Thong Run's brilliant artwork each year.
