Wray and Fay Goode's car came out of Mini Tec's Georgia workshop. It's one of the first Mini incarnations of the K-series Honda 2.0-litre engine, which changes all the Honda rules by spinning 'the other way' from previous Honda engines. It's also bigger and stronger than previous engines, but there's no chance of squeezing it inside a standard Mini front, as it uses every one of the extra four inches in Mini Tec's GRP flip-front.rnThe new engine is almost as easily available as the older B-series Honda engines and doesn't cost much more. Honda car engines rarely wear out or break, meaning a new one isn't much more valuable than a used one, so it's more likely to end up as scrap than recycled into another Honda. But Type S engines will always be at a premium, as will this car's top-grade six-speed box with Phantom Grip LSD.
