The last-but-one evening of the Minis to Ireland tour included an unexpected guest: Tina Murphy, daughter of the man who converted Alec Issigonis'drawings into real, feasible steel objects, Jack Daniels. Jack retired to Ireland and took with him many of his learned engineering appraisals, lecture notes and memorabilia. When he died in 2004, his house had to be cleared quickly by Tina and her husband. They saved what they could of his BMC/BL/ Rover-related items, and - encouraged by Irish Mini Owners Club stalwart and former local tourism director Billy Mulqueen -they brought some highlights along to the Celtic Ross Hotel at Rosscarbery.
