Nigel Tedder's automotive back-catalogue includes an extensive list of cars, ranging from very fast hot hatches to brutish luxury vehicles. He's even ticked the Alfa Romeo box on more than one occasion so it's safe to say he's a true petrol-head. The strange thing is that Minis never entered into the equation until six years ago, when he got lucky. "I never had one when I was younger. My sister had one. I worked on them and I'd helped to keep friends' Minis going." So how did he come by this one? "A good friend, Howard Thirkettle, was emigrating to America and asked me if I wanted to buy his Mk1 Mini, which I'd liked for years. It was garaged for 25 years after his uncle Renton died. From there Howard did a quick resto to get it back on the road then rebuilt it over four to five years. It was quite a nice, unusual Mk1, with some non-standard bits done to it, and I liked it. When I bought it off him I clearly went a bit mad," laughs Nigel. Apparently Howard approves of Nigel's mods which Nigel feels is important, especially now that Howard has come back to the UK.
