Given Chile's world leadership position in the mining industry it comes as no surprise that so many of the world's leading product and equipment suppliers are also present. Indeed nearly all of these companies have followed the lead of the global mining giants and established their regional headquarters here. One of the reasons for this office upgrade is that the mining products and equipment business is undergoing a significant change. Equipment suppliers are increasingly focused on providing the services around their products that impact the mining value chain. As such there is an important need to get much closer to the client. Long gone are the days when products were sold in a one off deal. The focus is now on providing the after sales training, support and implementation that ensure the best use of the product and the best return for the client. Indeed the idea of product suppliers being rewarded for performance, rather than product sales, may not be that far off.And this is driving a spirit of innovation that is seeing Chile increasingly develop new processes, products and technologies, which are then exported worldwide.
