Servicing the mining industry with EPCM, project management and commissioning capabilities has always been a challenging business. But given the presence in Chile of most of the world's mining giants, together with the sheer scale of the operations here, the sector is especially competitive and complex. Most of the world's largest engineering and construction companies operate here, in both competition and partnership with some well-established and well-respected local companies. But add this mix of project complexity and competition to five years of weak mineral prices and an absence of significant (greenfield) projects, and you perhaps start to understand why so many of them are looking for innovative ways to differentiate their services.
