Bermiidez is to be congratulated for having written an up-to-date, empirically grounded, and philosophically rigorous textbook. Covering much of the terrain, he expertly steers clear of two typical pitfalls for a textbook: either being accessible but bland or being insightful but obscure. It is highly recommended to instructors and students in philosophy and cognitive science. The introductory Chap. 1 highlights the book's focus on psychological explanation and its emphasis on the interplay between philosophical and psychological concerns. Key concepts in the study of cognition are expected to be understood more adequately in light of this interplay than is possible within either discipline alone.
