摘要

The New Jersey Paper Recycling Association (NJPRA) met late last month at the La Riviera Restaurant in Clifton, New Jersey to discuss the future of domestic recycling.rnSpeaking was Melanie Harman, Director of Sales, Recycling, Containerboard, Packaging and Recycling, of Weyerhaeuser. Harman referred to the U.S. as "the Saudi Arabia for recovered fiber." She noted that 34 million tons of recovered fiber is used in U.S. mills and reported that 32 percent of U.S. recovered fiber goes offshore, with 10 million tons going to China. More domestic collection is going to be necessary to meet future worldwide demand, she said. While 53 percent of U.S. fiber is presently recovered, another 33 percent of it is also recoverable. (Nine percent is tissue and, therefore, not recyclable, and the remaining 5 percent is considered contaminated, she said.)
