Scrap Paper Consumption 7.8 Percent Higher In 2010

Total U.S. industry consumption of recovered paper in 2010 was 31-55 million tons, 7.8 percent higher than 2009, according to the 2010 Audit of Recovered Paper Data published by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA). Consumption of each of the five major recovered paper grades increased in 2010. Most notably, Old Corrugated Containers (OCC) consumption increased 11 percent, followed by Mixed Papers (5.3 percent), Pulp Substitutes (3.4 percent), High Grade Deinking (1.8 percent) and Newspapers (1.6 percent).
