The rule change this summer which will prevent organic dairy farmers including a small proportion of non-organic material in their feedstuffs will be another hurdle which one West Country farm business will be taking in its stride. Will and Pam Best run Manor Farm Organic Milk at Codmanstone, near Dorchester in Dorset. They are pioneers of the modem organic milk movement in the UK - having converted in 1988 - and are, therefore, used to the vagaries of trying to run a business in a slowly maturing marketplace, with an increasing regulatory burden, and changing consumer priorities and expectations. But they are also innovative: they are committed to the concept of providing what they earnestly believe to be a really healthy product. And they believe that the ultimate market opportunity for dairy farmers will be in the organic milk movement. Will Best is unfazed by the removal of the 10% non-organic feed derogation.
