Though majority of land in India is suited for organic farming, the certified organic farming is still is its infancy. Around 41,000 hectares of land (0.03% of total agricultural area) is under organic management, as reported by SOEL-survey, February2003. Sustainable use of nature, healthier crop production and efficient use of farm resources are the major motivation for farmers to undertake organic cultivation. In order for organic farming to be a feasible option for farmers, not only their motivation is important, but also the economic aspects.
