Dairy UK supports bringing the quota regime to an end, but it doesn't support the 2% quota increase for the 2008/9 quota year. This may appear contradictory to those who take an all-or-nothing attitude to complex questions, but we like to think there's some logic to it. At a purely pragmatic level, the UK dairy industry is currently not in a position to benefit from a quota increase. No significant production response in the UK could be expected in the short term and the UK already has ample opportunity to expand its production under its existing quota ceiling.
