A day in the country

Recently I addressed the Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group at Stoneleigh Park. These are the farmers who provide Tesco with their liquid milk supplies.rnI have to say I found it a heartening experience. Now I know that these farmers are privileged to a large degree, being in receipt of probably the most advanced producer contract anywhere in the world. Nevertheless, their willingness to better their technical performance in return for greater reward was palpable.rnOn the day, Tesco did a small survey of their farmer intentions. More than 60% wanted to increase production. Slightly over 1 % said they would cease production. These are very different figures from the ones communicated recently by DairyCo, and shows confidence in the future (always understanding at the same time, that to deliver prosperity, increased production must always accompany increased demand). It was a privileged sub-set of the total population, but heartening nevertheless.
