Speakers at the annual Semex conference in Glasgow last month struck an upbeat tone about the prospects for the dairy sector. Credit crunch gloom was put on the back burner as IGD Chief Executive Joanne Denney Finch explained that consumers strongly supported British farmers. She told delegates that farming had an "approval rating to die for". She repeatedly urged farmers to make the most of current economic conditions, and invest for the future. "You need to be brave to invest in a recession, but when everyone is cutting back, this is a chance to surge ahead."
