DTAS hits the road

The Dairy Transport Assurance Scheme (DTAS) is designed to fill a gap in the assurance of the dairy industry supply chain. Farming is covered by Assured Dairy Farms and the processing side is covered by British Retail Consortium standards. This leaves a gap for raw milk transport that the DTAS is designed to fill. There are two reasons for doing so. The first is the natural progression of industry standards and extension of best practice. The second is that the Red Tractor requires farm to fork assurance. Most other agricultural sectors have schemes that explicitly address product transport. Completing the coverage of the dairy supply chain by assurance schemes requires the industry to fill the transport gap.
