"Pale Horse" gave me a unique look at what was going on in the air while I was tending to the wounded on the ground. Although the events are in Afghanistan, those birds and great pilots are the same. Col. Blackmon took me right through their deployment and his firsthand accounts really hit home. This book will be easy to follow for civilians and should be used as an educational tool. When a hero's life was last in the story, I felt it. It reminded me that we are all cut from the same cloth - infantry, medics, pilots, rear detachments, and intelligence officers. As I read the book, oneparticular warrior who made me smile was SSG Emmett Spraktes, California National Guard. As a combat medic myself, SSG Spraktes is my hero.
