Class reunion in Viet Nam

In mid-1966, I served with 2nd Platoon, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Infantry Regiment. Offered R&R in Singapore, I headed to Chu Lai for transport to Da Nang. Arriving, they put us in staging and told us our flight left the next morning and we were advised not to miss it. Having heard the rumors of an air-conditioned enlisted club on base, I set out in search of it and, asking directions, it did not take long to find. As I walked in, I thought I had stepped into the Arctic Circle! The place was full and cold, and the beer, colder.
