The USS Laffey's kamikaze attack

Shipshape, with all the rust holes patched and a new coat of paint that covers her age spots, the WWII destroyer USS Laffey (DD-724) once again floats proudly at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum outside of Charleston, SC. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986, she is one tough lady who has been through a lot during her naval career, but nothing quite like what happened to her and her crew on 16 April 1945, when they endured a 1 1/2-hour attack by 22 Japanese kamikazes in what is considered by naval historians as one of the most intensive kamikaze attacks against a single warship in all of WWII.
