Over the years the bugle has called many Rhode Islanders to the call of duty in foreign and dangerous lands. These brave men and women accepted that call and accepted the sacrifice that was expected of them. They left family, friends and the lives that they had built for themselves to go to the aid of those less fortunate. They left with a silent dignity that can only describe them as "silent heroes." They accepted their fate with dignity and a sense of honor that those who have never been asked can understand. These soldiers were some of the most dedicated and loyal individuals I have ever known, and to be included in their presence was truly an honor.
