Russian incursions into Crimea in 2014 continue to highlight the emergence of so-called Hybrid Warfare, which has been neatly defined as New Generation Warfare (NWG) by defence analysts.The term "Hybrid Warfare" is often described in multiple interpretations. However, according to officials from the RAND Corporation, the Russian concept of hybrid warfare or NWG can be characterised as using, "...multiple instruments of power and influence, with an emphasis on non-military tools, to pursue its national interests outside its borders."
