With long-range Russian air-to-air missiles (AAM) that can reach out almost 250mi an established reality, and Chinese weapons that can comfortably exceed that figure believed to be at the flight-test stage, and with European forces fielding METEOR, is the US behind the curve in this technology, as the AIM-120D AMRAAM's range is believed to be about 100 miles? In terms of deployed weapons that might be the case, but with the F-22 and F-35 platforms, at least the kinematic range advantage that potential adversaries might have may be offset by stealth, and in non-stealthy aircraft possibly by electronic warfare (EW) to some degree. Furthermore, the US has several on-going developments intended to close the gap.
