Theodor Benien As NATO Defence Ministers met in Brussels 13-14 February to discuss current defence issues, they agreed that Russia's violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty poses a significant threat to transatlantic security. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on Russia to take this last opportunity to return to compliance, saying: "All Allies stand ready to engage further with Russia. But we are also preparing for a world without the INF Treaty." He added that the Alliance does not intend to deploy new ground-based nuclear missiles in Europe, stating clearly that, "NATO does not want a new arms race."
