Offshore oil and gas infrastructures are not only vital to the economy, but highly vulnerable to hostile threats. A small, yet hostile craft or swimmer carrying explosives could result in a potential security nightmare. This article investigates how offshore oil and gas rigs can be secured. The offshore oil and gas industry is no stranger to unmanned technology with UAVs, USVs, and AUVs all being used to certain degrees for pipeline inspection, security and environmental monitoring purposes.
