A Shocking Expression of a Social Disenchantment

As Europe has entered the new age with terrorism right on our doorstep, xenophobic violence against refugees is on the rise in Germany of all places. In August, a Neo-Nazi protest against a new refugee centre in a small Eastern German town (Heidenau) turned violent, while "concerned" German citizens filled the ranks (remember 1933, anyone?). German Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the riots as "disgusting", stating: "There is no tolerance toward those who question the dignity of other people," she said. "The more people make this clear...the stronger we will be."
