Regaining the Lost Electromagnetic Spectrum

Perhaps the most blunt and alarming statement about the US's declining EW readiness was made at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on 3 September 2014. Alan Shaffer, the pentagon's research and engineering chief, declared in that forum: "We have lost the electromagnetic spectrum. That is a huge deal when you think about fielding advanced systems that can be [countered] by a very, very cheap digital jammer." One effort to regain EW superiority is occurring in US air systems -weapons platforms, and on board subsystems. At the same time, US allies and friends are also expanding their capabilities in this warfare mission.
