The EU-commission that so far has left most of the decisions on defence to its 28 members, did propose, "measures to create a more open competition in a market dominated by big companies such as BAE Systems, pan-European Airbus, or Italy's Finmeccanica." In the expensive segment of manned fighter aircraft however, the fact that several EU/NATO-nations are 'slaved' to a US-built F-35 that, while a striking concept, provides only a dim light on the end of its own tunnel yet, dwarfs any concerns on inter-EU competition.
