As the leading defence company for MBT modernisation in Turkey, Aselsan has previously taken important roles in the major MBT (171 LEOPARD 1A1/A4 and 170 M60A1) and APC (providing un-cooled thermal cameras for ACV 300 APCs and BTR60 APCs) modernisation programmes of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF). Aselsan has also developed an indigenous fire control system for the T-155 FIRTINA Self Propelled Howitzers of the Turkish Army. Under a contract awarded in April 2009, Aselsan was tasked by the SSM to integrate new state-of-the-art Tank Fire Control System (TFCS), dubbed as EAGLEEYE Ⅲ and was originally selected for the Turkish 3+ Generation ALTAY MBT, onto a LEOPARD 2A4 MBT in the inventory of the TLF. In addition to the new state-of-the-art TFCS, the LEOPARD 2A4 MBT is also integrated with a SARP remotely operated 12.7mm turret and add-on armour modules. The LEOPARD 2A4 MBT prototype was planned to be used as a "test bed" in the Turkish National Main Battle Tank (ALTAY) Programme of the Turkish Land Forces (TLF). Upon completion of the integration works, starting from November 2011, the LEOPARD 2A4 prototype (dubbed as LEOPARD 2NG for export markets) underwent comprehensive mobility testing and carried out live firing tests in 2013. In March 2013, Aselsan and RUAG signed an agreement in order to integrate Aselsan's Tank Fire Control System, which was successfully tested with live firing tests on the 2A4, to RUAG's LEOPARD 2 MLU prototype.
