C-IED Developments: Countering IEDs - Chasing a Moving Target

Although the recent attacks in Lahore and Brussels illustrate that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) remain very difficult to counter, particularly when delivered by suicide bombers, doctrine, strategy, tactics and technology have come a long way in recent years, and the overall approach characterised as "defeat the device, attack the network and prepare the force" is a sound one. Technology gaps remain, however, and information sharing among allies and coalition partners needs to improve, according to NATO experts at the most recent C-IED technology workshop.
