Final Frontier? ...Or Just New Frontier?: Information Technology Warfare, a.k.a. the Cyber Realm = The Fifth Domain of Warfare

As this regular column beds down for the long haul of examining the future of defence technologies, some initial groundwork has already been covered. From the next edition of this column, the intention is to look at themes that govern the evolution of technology as it is applied to military and security operations; high energy weapons, advanced materials and manufacturing, nanotechnology, neural sciences, less-than-lethal intervention techniques, space-based systems, and low energy computing - we will not run short of subject matter. But in order to look forward, we must perforce take at least a backward glance to examine the wellspring of recent experience, knowledge and innovation from which future developments will, in part, at least, stem.
