Control of the Australian Defence Organisation is exercised by the Minister for Defence, Minister for Defence Industry and Minister for Defence Personnel. The Secretary of the Department of Defence, administers the civilian department, and the Chief of the Defence Force (CDF), commands the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The National Security Committee (NSC), chaired by the Prime Minister, is the main decision-making body on national security matters. The Secretaries Committee on National Security (SCNS) is the main inter-departmental committee which considers national security policy and operational matters of an ongoing nature in addition to all matters to be put before the NSC. The SCNS further has a coordinating role on homeland and border security matters.
