Navies call for an improved amphibious capability, with connectors -vessels capable of connecting landing force vessels with the shore - playing an increasingly important role. Platforms of this kind can serve as, "key enablers' of "stand-alone force protection on a regional scale," according to CNIM. The company unveiled L-CAT Shore-to-Shore at Euronaval 2016, a new design that is a follow-on to its famous L-CAT landing craft in service with the French and Egyptian fleets. MT was told that the new craft, with an overall length of 33.6m and a maximum draft of 2.35m, is suited to the requirements of modern amphibious warfare. But it can do more. CNIM is optimistic, saying that the unique design characteristics of L-CAT Shore-to-Shore, "will enable it to respond perfectly to current maritime security needs, including civil assistance requirements in the event of evacuation of civilian population from disaster-stricken areas."
