Rebuilding, upgrading and replacing existing forces will not be enough to make them future proof and ready to engage in rapidly changing conflicts, fought simultaneously across physical and virtual domains, in military next to traditionally civilian arenas. This article describes six new capability development themes from Playing to Your Strenghts, a report by the The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies. The report has been used in the preparation of the Future Vision for the Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA), Security through Foresight, which describes the lines of development with a time horizon up to 2030.
