India Modernises its Training Systems and Services

India’s armed forces are acceleratingtheir shift towardssynthetic training with the introductionof modern Western military platforms.The growth of simulation in trainingis being led by the Indian Air Force(IAF) and Indian Navy (IA), which havea greater percentage of military equipmentfrom the West, as compared to theArmy, which has a preponderance ofRussian sourced equipment. However,the continuation of a procurement policythat sources major defence equipmentfrom Russia, France, USA, Israel and theUK; each with their own operational andmaintenance philosophies places realchallenges in the creation of a cohesiveand integrated simulation and traininginfrastructure in the short to mediumterm.
